ABOUT THE RIDE
450 miles of stunning beaches and landscape from Palo Alto to the West Los Angeles Medical Center are featured in the 7th annual California Challenge. This is one of the most challenging of the Ride 2 Recovery events, with climbs up Big Sur and Stagecoach Pass followed by fast descents. After the strenuous days, cyclists will overnight in Gilroy, Carmel, San Simeon, Pismo Beach, Solvang and Ventura before finishing in West LA. In addition to the stunning ocean views along the route, participants will also ride through a portion of 17-mile Drive in Carmel and the Los Padres National Forest.
Travel down the beautiful and scenic Highway 1 while enjoying stunning views of the Pacific Coast at every turn! The Pacific Ocean will be off your right shoulder as you head south through great cities like Santa Cruz, Carmel, Big Sur, San Simeon, Pismo Beach, Solvang and Ventura. The ride will depart from the Palo Alto VA and finish at the West Los Angeles VA.
This ride is a Category "A" (Difficult)
The rides will be limited to 150 participants with a minimum $4,000 fee to cover your costs. There is an active duty military or VA employee discount of 50% ($2,000 required fee). Your $80 registration will be applied to the total you raise.
All wounded warriors ride for free by invitation only and must register to be considered for invitation. See below for invitation criteria.
Full week Challenge participants will receive a Ride 2 Recovery jersey, bib, socks, and t-shirt, as well as hotel housing, rider support, luggage transportation (70lbs max), daily route guides, marked course, rest stops, hydration and meals. Participants are responsible for transportation to and from the event. There may also be nighttime entertainment on selected evenings.
ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST REGISTER ONLINE! Wounded Warriors, please note that your online registration does not guarantee you a slot on the ride. Participation is by invitation only. Contact your Project HERO Manager with any questions.

2. Participant's ability to successfully complete the ride
