Ride 2 Recovery 9/11 Challenge Overview In honor of the 10th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks, a special edition R2R Challenge event will be held. The ride will be 8 days and approx. 530 miles. This has several hilly sections during the ride so make sure you train before showing up for the ride. Participants will include survivors, family members, and first responders from 9-11, wounded heroes from the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the general public. The ride will begin on 9-11-11 from Liberty State Park in view of the World Trade Center site and head west to the United 93 Memorial in Shanksville, PA. From there, the participants will head to the finish at the Pentagon Memorial. Along the way, riders will cross the Delaware River at Washington’s Crossing, stop in Philly, ride thru Valley Forge and Gettysburg and many other historical sites of our Country’s history. Supporters include United Healthcare, the USO and the American Legion Family. The rides will be limited to 350 riders plus support, with a minimum $2998 ($1 for each killed on 9-11) donation. All injured veterans ride for free. There is an active duty Military or VA employee discount. The riders will receive a special edition 9-11 Ride 2 Recovery jersey, socks, and T-shirt. The donation will also include hotel housing, limited rider support, luggage transportation (70lbs max), daily route guides, marked course, rest stops, snacks, meals. Sept. 11-18 WTC(Liberty Park) to the Pentagon
The route would take us south from Liberty Park to Philadelphia by way of New Jersey. Cross the Delaware River at Washington's Crossing. From Philly, travel thru Valley Forge, past Lancaster and Gettysburg on our way to Shanksville, site of United #93 crash. From Shanksville, travel south/southeast to Charles Town and then to DC and finish at the Pentagon Memorial. FYI- 9-11 will be on a Sunday in 2011 so the finish will also be on a Sunday
